Question 3:

what kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?

There are 2 main types of media institution: Indepedendent and the Big Six. below are some facts about the Big Six, and why we decided not to use them to distribute our film.

The Distribution company we chose for our Media product in 'New Line Cinema'. We chose this company as it is an independent film studio, so is fitting for our first film. New Line Cinema was created by Robert Shaye in 1971, and distributes a variety of genres, focussing mainly on horror/thriller, fantasy and comedy. It has produced thrillers such as Se7en and the Number 23, which appealed to us as it is appropriate for our genre. It also produces a lot of horror/ thriller films, such as Final Destination 3 in 2006 and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003. We liked this company as it is a subsidary of 'Time Warner', which is affiliated with Warner Bros Pictures. This means it is not entirely independent, and as Warner Bros is a member of the Big Six our film could possibly get disributed to a more massed audience depending on its succsess. Its roots in Hollywood means it has produced some high grossing films, such as Lord of the Rings trilogy, with 'The Return of the King's gross domestic profit at $372,027,325. The flexibilty between small and big films, as well as the genre of the films makes New Lone Cinema a good choice for our opening.
