Sound

today I looked for music that is similar in style to what we want. this will help us decide what sort of music we like, and will help us decide on a final piece.

Our Thriller - Inspirations

Vertigo (composed- Bernard Herrman)

I really like this music, as it is full of suspense, but also has a hypnotic, psychadelic feel that helps set the scene. I think the mystery element is important, so we need to find that in the music we use.

Psycho (composed- Bernard Herrman)

The reason I like the music for this is because it has a driving feel, due to the fast tempo, which makes you feel immediatly like your stepping into an adventure. However, the mystery element that was created in 'Vertigo' isnt as prominent in this peice, which i think is important for a thriller.

The Purge (composed- Nathan Whitehead)

the calming music is so ironic, which is why I like it. as its unconventional, it  wrks and adds a sort of normality to the violence. I think we could use a calm classical style piece in our opening, as it could add a sense of normality to the murders, which wil create dramatic irony.

Antagonist's Costume

we disussed what our antagonist should wear in lots of detail. here are some of our main inspirations. We wanted to have blood, but without a weapon so all the deaths are implicit. we also liked the typical girl in the white dress, as it creats a dramatic irony. however we chose black as one of our name inspirations is Woman in Black, as the idea of seeing a person and then being doomed is one of our key concepts.

today we checked the website 'SoundCloud'as we had contacted some composers about using their music on our website as inspiration. here is my favourite piece that we found:

this piece reminds me of 'Vertigo', and i think it has a lot of suspense. its measured pace is good,  and has nice crescendos that accentuate the minor key.

Here is the message we sent to Amy Bastow, asking to use 'Example of a Suspense/Mystery cue for film (2013)' on soundcloud. we found this website useful, especially the vast amount to music.
